My Mom.

Happy Birthday to my mama!

She’s my best friend, the shoulder I cry on, the one I turn to for advice, my biggest cheerleader when I have doubts, and my partner in soap making and so many other things on our farm. The person I admire most, too, and if I manage to be half as kind as her in my lifetime, I’ll be happy. She’s also the one person that has continually shocked me the past few years as we started our family farm. Mom has embraced this new lifestyle of becoming more self-sustainable more than I ever thought possible.

She also shocked me again today when I asked her what kind of birthday cake she wanted. Mom is a huge peanut butter/chocoholic, and always requests a cake made from one or the other of those (or a combination of both). Out of the blue today, she decided on lemon cheese cake. And even though I’ve been under the weather this week, when you’re mama asks for a certain cake (and offers to help make it), you do it, of course (Thank you Mama for helping me with your birthday cake 🙂 ).

Here’s a sneak peek of her present, by the way (even though she won’t actually get him for a little while longer):

Remember on the Farm Goals for 2013 post I said that we wanted to add more registered goats to our herd. This little guy is a Mini Nubian with blue eyes. We’ve been on a waiting list for a couple of months for him, and he finally made it into the world at the end of January. My mom is thrilled over him. Nubians have been a breed she’s been interested in for a few years now, and the fact that he’s a miniaturized version means he’s just perfect for our farm.

Now, to end this post on a not so great note – please keep my mom in your thoughts. She has an appointment on Monday to have a possible skin cancer checked out. We have a family history of skin cancer, so keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well.

Thank you for visiting my blog! I enjoy reading each and every comment!
